Lafitenia: your questions answered

What level is Lafitenia for?

Experienced surfers: the tourist office advises beginners against it. The take-off can be radical, with steps in the bottom, and there are rocks pretty much everywhere plus some current.

Is Lafitenia a right or a left?

Mostly the right: long and fast, especially on the inside, with sections for cutbacks. The left is shorter and rockier, and far less surfed.

What conditions work best at Lafitenia?

A westerly to north-westerly swell and a south-easterly wind. The spot holds from 1 to 4 m and is fairly consistent: it can work at any time of year.

What tide is best for Lafitenia?

The best window is low to mid tide, but the spot stays surfable for much of the day, except on very big tides. The rocks show more or less depending on the tide, so spot them before you paddle out if you don’t know the place.

Does Lafitenia get crowded?

Yes, as soon as it’s working: it’s a locals’ favourite and the line-up fills up fast, especially at lunchtime. To dodge the crowd, aim for quieter hours.
