Anglet is more than four kilometres of beaches lined up between the mouth of the Adour and the Chambre d’Amour cliff. Groynes split the coast into a dozen spots, from La Barre to the VVF: powerful beach breaks up north at Les Cavaliers and La Barre, gentler beaches down south at Les Sables d’Or and Le Club, where the surf schools hang out.
On Fraamed, every session shot in Anglet is sorted by spot, day and time. Find yours, add your photos to the cart and download them in HD.
Surfing in Anglet: your questions answered
Which Anglet spot should I pick when the swell is big?
Head to La Barre: tucked between the Adour jetties, it stays cleaner and smaller than the rest of the coast when everywhere else is maxed out, so it’s the classic fallback. Down south, VVF, sheltered by the lighthouse headland, also handles a big swell. Either way, you’ll need to be a solid surfer.
Where can I learn to surf in Anglet?
Aim for the south of the town: Marinella, Les Corsaires, La Madrague and Les Sables d’Or have gentler waves and host surf schools. Leave Les Cavaliers and La Barre to experienced surfers, though: the waves are powerful and the current is strong.
Where can I surf in Anglet when the wind is from the south?
Go to VVF, the last beach before Biarritz: the Chambre d’Amour cliff shelters it from southerly winds. It gets really busy, so get there early.
