Bidart Centre: your questions answered
What tide is best for surfing Bidart Centre?
Bidart Centre works mostly around mid tide, and a decent swell shows best on the rising tide. At low tide, watch out for the rocks scattered along the beach.
Does Bidart Centre handle a big swell?
Yes, it’s reputed to be the only beach in Bidart that holds a big winter swell without closing out. It picks up swell well and stays fairly consistent, so it’s a safe bet when the other beaches max out.
Where are the best peaks at Bidart Centre?
There’s a right in front of the beach, a left to the north, and a hollower wave to the south that can barrel on a good day. The south end is also where the big rock slabs are: the ends, near the rocks, suit confident surfers, while the softer peaks in the middle suit beginners.
What wind works for Bidart Centre?
An easterly wind, which is offshore here, gives the best sessions, ideally with a north-westerly swell. When the current runs north, the water can be affected by pollution from the nearby Uhabia river.
