Erretegia: your questions answered
What level is Erretegia for?
Erretegia’s waves are fairly soft, which makes it a training ground for the surf schools and a good spot to progress. The half-sand, half-rock bottom still calls for care, especially at low tide.
What tide is best for surfing Erretegia?
Aim for mid tide, preferably on the falling tide. At high tide the water reaches the foot of the cliffs, and on big spring tides the beach almost disappears and the rocks can’t be seen.
Does Erretegia work when it’s windy?
It’s one of Bidart’s most sheltered beaches: tucked beneath the high cliffs, it’s protected from southerly and westerly onshore winds. It’s still at its best in an easterly, offshore wind.
