What are the waves like at Les Sables d’Or?
The jetties funnel north-westerly swell into a well-shaped peak: fairly long, softer rights and faster, hollower lefts, with barrels on good days. The rights are great for progressing, the lefts need more experience.
When is it less crowded at Les Sables d’Or?
Early in the morning: it fills up fast during the day, especially in summer, because it works on almost every tide. The first session is your chance to get space and the best waves.
How big a swell can Les Sables d’Or handle?
It usually maxes out beyond about 2.5 m of swell, so on big days look elsewhere. It works on almost every tide, but avoid the very top of high tide.
