Les 100 marches: your questions answered
What tide is best for surfing Les 100 marches?
The spot works on all tides, but it’s more pleasant and safer around mid tide. At high tide the water covers the whole beach in places, and as the tide drops, rocks start to show.
What conditions work at Les 100 marches?
The spot works well with a swell of around 1 to 1.5 metres and an easterly, offshore wind. The bottom mixes sand and rock, so stay alert, especially on the falling tide.
Is the staircase at Les 100 marches hard going?
It drops around 80 metres and is steep in places; a rope sometimes helps on the trickiest bits. There’s no car park right by the cove, so plan on a walk with your board under your arm.
Is the beach at Les 100 marches lifeguarded?
No, the cove isn’t lifeguarded, so you surf there at your own risk. Bear that in mind before paddling out, especially as the beach gets very narrow at high tide.
