Marbella: your questions answered
How do you get to the beach at Marbella?
On foot, the only way down is a stone staircase from Avenue de la Milady, and parking nearby is limited, so come by bike or bus if you can. The steps and rocks make access awkward for anyone with reduced mobility.
What tide should you surf at Marbella?
Mid tide is the most often recommended, and several guides suggest the dropping tide. At high tide, the waves break closer to the shore and get harder to catch; whatever the tide, watch out for the rocks at the end of the wave.
Does Marbella work in a big swell?
Marbella is more of a small-swell spot: the rocks hold the sand in place and give hollow but fickle waves. When the swell picks up, the wave breaks further out and peters out quickly, so you spend a lot of time duck-diving for very few waves.
What’s the vibe in the water at Marbella?
It’s a locals’ beach, centred on the Marbella Surf Club, with a slightly cliquey feel. Respect the regulars and the right of way.
