L'Uhabia: your questions answered

What’s L'Uhabia like at high tide?

At high tide the shorebreak throws a barrel right by the water’s edge on the south side, which bodyboarders love. For surfing, the waves are generally softer then, so aim for low to mid tide instead.

Lefts or rights at L'Uhabia?

Both: the sandbanks shaped by the river create left and right peaks near the mouth. The south side is known for its long, easy wave, the north side for steeper walls.

Does L'Uhabia work when it’s big?

L'Uhabia is a classic fallback when it’s too big elsewhere, but its northern end closes out quickly and the spot ends up washing out if the swell keeps building. The current also gets stronger as the swell grows.

Can I surf L'Uhabia after heavy rain?

Best to wait: after storms and heavy rain, the river can pollute the water around the mouth, especially in spring. The rest of the time it’s fairly rare, but keep an eye on the weather over the previous days.
